Does insurance cover qEEG brain mapping?

How accurate is qEEG brain mapping?

A qEEG is a measurement of real electrical activity, and it is accurate at what it measures: your brain wave patterns compared against normative databases. Published research reports useful accuracy for specific applications, for example a 2020 review in the Journal of Medicine and Life describes sensitivity of 72 to 93 percent and specificity of 75 to 88 percent for certain depression-related parameters, while noting that qEEG is recommended as an additional method alongside clinical evaluation rather than a replacement for it. How long does a qEEG brain map take and what should I expect?

Plan for roughly an hour for the recording appointment. A comfortable sensor cap is placed on your scalp and your brain activity is recorded while you sit quietly, typically with your eyes open for part of the session and closed for another part. Nothing is sent into your brain at any point, the sensors only read activity, and there is no pain and no recovery time. Your data is then analyzed and turned into a report, which your clinician reviews with you before any training begins.
